laser cutting

In the fashion project  i wanted to use a new technique and try the laser cutter again as i have only used it a few times.

I first tried it out with knitted lambswool i had felted myself and it didn't go well, it smelt a lot and it was burnt the edges which caused a discolouring which i didn't want. So i then knew i had to fine an acrylic felt which i hoped wouldnt do the same.

I found some of eBay with was acrylic 3mm thick felt, i tried it out on the laser cutter and it worked perfectly it didn't smell and it just melted the edge which just sort of sealed them which was great.

In the image below i laser cut a few stripes and then weaved them together and put them in the heat press to set them in place this was just me playing around to see what would happen.

Fashion Project

For our latest project I've been looking at a different architect called Daniel Libeskind, i have chosen to look at him because i like the way he uses sharp edges within his work.

I have decided to make some necklaces for the fashion project to try something complete different to what i would go for normally and i also want to make a necklace range for my business so thought this would be a good chance to test some things out.

I started my drawings with just shapes on there own and then i wasn't enjoying it so decided to add a figure to work onto to see what came out of it, from doing this i found i was really enjoying making the drawings and it was giving me new different ideas.

I also wanted to use the laser cutter to try out some designs and I'm really happy with how they came out

I am happy with this collection i have finished with but i then thought i want to try it with something knitted so that it could work for my business

This is my favourite design, I've knitted a 3000 row cord on my knitting machine out of lambswool and then finger knitted it to make the necklace and I'm really happy with how it came out as it still has the knitted element in it which is what I'm about.
