Anita Hutchison 

Anita describes her textiles as drawings in fabric and thread. They are abstract, sculptural, tactile and visual, and are constructed with a variety of materials along with traditional craft and sewing techniques. The main theme behind the work is memories. The importance of, recollection of, and communication of, memories has become a focus of her work after watching and caring for a relative with dementia. The textile pieces are designed to record, preserve and to disseminate information to others, each piece telling a story.

 

This image above I really like as it is very different and eye catching, and I feel it makes you think about the things around you and what the litter is doing to the beach and how to changes the way the beach itself looks. Around the middle of this piece she has embroidered 'the beach was littered with rubbish.' You can tell that with her work each piece has a meaningful and important story that she is trying to get across to people. 

I think that Anita's work is really strong and each piece she does has a meaning behind it all or it triggers memories for her and maybe some other people who have similar memories.
